DIGISTOR now has the world’s first FIPS SATA and PCIe/NVMe SSDs at COTS pricing listed on the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) Product Compliant List. In this blog, you’ll learn why that’s significant and how our FIPS SSDs can now be used to secure Data at Rest (DAR).

A World First for the US Government

Being on the NIAP Product Compliant List means that DIGISTOR’s FIPS SSDs are Common Criteria validated. Common Criteria is an international standard for data security with over 30 participating countries and validation means that our FIPS SSDs meet the most stringent encryption and secure storage standards. NIAP, which is operated by the NSA, is the government initiative to meet the security testing needs of the program.

Now DIGISTOR FIPS SSDs can be used for securing Data at Rest (DAR) in many US government systems and applications. What’s more, their commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) pricing means the government can implement secure storage requirements at less cost to taxpayers than would otherwise be possible.

Secure Classified Information at Commercial Pricing with Citadel

Common Criteria validation and NIAP Product Compliant listing applies to all DIGISTOR FIPS SSDs, including those that have already been sold and installed in the past, including our line of Citadel self-encrypting drives with pre-boot authentication.

The Citadel PBA feature keeps bad actors out of sensitive or secure DAR. Citadel SSDs require a user to log into the SSD itself before accessing data. But this isn’t like a Windows login screen. Pre-boot authentication takes place before the computer itself can load the operating system or see any data on the Citadel SSD. Unlike Windows, this renders the Data at Rest on the drive completely invisible to attackers who might try to physically steal the SSD because they won’t have the credentials to see it.

This level of security is great for locking down data and access to storage used in laptops and desktops as well as intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) systems. Citadel SSDs can also be used to build NSA Commerical Solutions for Classified (CSfC) DAR solutions thanks to achieving Common Criteria validation and being placed on the NIAP Product Compliant List.
